Health care is a major issue today. Salem residents have access to primary care in the fields of General Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Therapy and Optometry as well as pharmacy and Veterinarian Medicine. SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation for Salem, a 128-bed skilled nursing care and rehab center, was established in 1982. United Hospital Center and the Lewis A. Johnson VA Medical Center are located approximately 12 miles east of Salem.
