SALEM VETERANS MEMORIAL RESTORATION PROJECT
In 2007, we began a project to restore the Veterans Memorials at Veterans Park on Main Street. The first phase involved repair and painting of the cannon, painting of the flag polls, sign posts and the historical marker on the site. The memorials were also cleaned with the framing replaced and repainted.
The work on the memorials prompted us take action to replace the listing of the names of veterans on them. Currently these are labels placed on a white board. Due to age and weather damage, we have begun a project to replace the boards with a bronze memorials.
Towards that goal, we will be launching appropriate fund raising as well as verification of the accuracy of the listings. The following pdf files are the names as we have taken them form the current listing. If your name or that of a family member should be part of this listing and are missing or inaccurate, please contact project coordinator, Stephen Kelley.
