RACE HISTORY & FACTS

Founded in 1988, the annual Sam Warner 5K Run is a highly 2005 Winner Josh Weekleypopular race with its flat terrain and crushed limestone surface through the country along the North Bend Trail. Its 5 kilometer (3.2 mile) course starts on the rail-trail across from East Resources Building on Flinderation Road, east of Salem. The race enters into downtown Salem and ends at at Railroad Street across from Salem Post Office. In 1999, the  Salem Apple Butter Festival  5 K Race was renamed the SAM WARNER 5 K RUN in honor  of the late Sam Warner. Mr. Warner, a racing and  fitness advocate, served as chairman of the 5 K race  from 1990 until his death in the summer of 1999.  The 1999 Race featured the largest field (173 runners) and a new course record (15:25 by David McCollum).

Registration Cost         $12 if received by October 5

                                  $15 after October 5

Registrations Deadline  8:30 a.m. on race day

SERVICES

Shuttle Service - A van runs between the finish and starting lines until 8:30 a.m. and again following the closing ceremonies.

Restrooms - Conveniently located at the beginning and end points of the race

Refreshments - Available near the finish line

 

PRIZES AND AWARDS

T-shirts - Awarded to the first 100 runners to register

Ribbons - Awarded to each runner

Trophies - Awarded to top three female and male finishers overall and to top three female and male finishers in each age group (9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70 & over). Only one trophy will be awarded per winner.
